Hi folks.  I was wondering if anyone else has seen this, and maybe help me figure out what caused it.  I pulled three quaters out of a roll of 2007-P Washington State Quarters (the latest state quarter) that have an extra little blob near the top of the mountain.  Everyone I've shown it to says it looks like a moon coming up from behind the mountain.

I've taken a few photos and put them on a photo sharing web page:

First of all, great pics!!!

Very cool, I think they are die chips. The "moon" looks big enough and cool enough that it might be worth a small premium to the error guys.

Nice find. Clap

Sorry, I didn't think it would be that hard.  Just copy and paste into the address line.  I can post larger pics this way.

Here are pics, but better ones at the above address.

This would be a strange looking die defect. It could be a planchet flaw.

To me,it just looks like someone dropped a screwdriver so hard on the lower die (reverse) to cause that gouge.

Nice.  The state quarters have provide a lot of die crack, etc.  Do you notice the second "8" in 1889 also have a cross bar in the lower circle?

Just to let you folks know, I found several with that cross bar in the lower loop of the "8", but only three had the "moon".  I doubt its a planchet defect because there's three w/ the same defect.
