Slow down on those bourbins and let's try one more time. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to grab a drink so I must confess I don't know what in the hell you are saying but I am sure it's good! Smile

Look I didn't mean to put down anything. If it floats your boat great. But with the vast majority grading  MS69 and there are more graded MS70 than MS 68
or lower why would I want to submit a coin to grading pay the  $25.00 or $30.00 fee .Now as far as so called rarities of MS70 if one were to look at all the gold coins minted between 1849 thru 1933 there are ZERO MS70 and less than a dozen ms 69's on the NGC population reports .

You are NOT making any sense at all. Are you talking 2006, 2007? I have a bunch of PCGS 70s that are less than pop 5 and have been for many years dispite my numerous attempts to add another. Look at the 94 PCGS PR70DCAM gold eagle $50 pop 4 on the market for $31,000.  It was just 24K a little while ago.

If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen. Bullion coins are not for everyone but don't complain when you are left behind. Don't say I didn't warn you.

This started out about 2006 w ASE in ms 70
MY bad for bringing up gold
1994 PCGS PR70 CAM gold $50 pop 4  on the market for 31-grand
1994 NGC  ms70 gold $50 sold for $6325.00 nov12 2006 HERITAGE AUCTION
YEA it was NGS   and MS  and it was not  MS70 NOT PR70DCAM but this one is
1994 PCGS PR70 DCAM  GOLD EAGLE $50.00 SOLD FOR $2645.00 JUNE 3 2007
the key word here is SOLD not  ON The Market  sold shows the real value
I spend a lot of time in the kitchen because I haven't  worked this century

Well that is my point about PCGS vs NGC. If you want a slightly lesser coin that claims to be a 70, NGC is more than happy to grade it for you. I think I read that in 2006 NGC graded more 70's than PCGS has done in their history.

So, I think the 1994 PR70DCAM PCGS $50 would be snapped up in a second if the price was a little closer to $20K which is still 10x more than what a NGC coin would bring. Like I said, NGC is good but they aren't PCGS and the public confirms that everyday with their wallets. :)

Here's a good example from the same seller on eBay. They know what sells and the truth is PCGS is heads and shoulders above the rest. :)

How do they determine the coins  as first strike on the 20 ase sets .One is made in Philadelphia PA the other 2 come from West Point NY made at different times .Then their sent to a second or third  party and put into sets
in another state.Where does the first come into picture now if they called them FIRST GRADED then no problem but first strike sounds like another losing lawsuit down the road to me

I think PCGS could change to "First Strikes" and put an end to the semantics issue. PCGS sets a date of around 30 days from the time the Mint announces shipping of a product and is this a perfect system? Hardly. Those that like the FS program will continue to buy and those that don't won't. You see how fast NGC came up with the  "Early Release" program after PCGS.

The other aspect is that if you own high grade in FS and non-FS, the worst is that you have 2 of the same high grade coins. So what is the big deal? So JJ, you now have 4 or 5 threads going now to criticize PCGS and the modern coins, what is it that you have to say except complaints?

I have to say that I have not been on this website for 3 months and in that time it seems some very harsh people have joined this forum.  Hopefully we all will try to understand each other.  God bless, Shawn

griv Where do you come up with the idea that I have 4 or 5 threads going
that criticize PCGS . I don't think I have started any threads people have started a thread and ask a questions and I have answered no more no less.
One thing for sure many people in the hobby disagree on many things which  gives everybody a chance to view others collectors thoughts that's all they are are my thoughts to questions asked .As far as PCGS and NGC I belong to both .

I'n not suggesting that you started the threads but I notice you jump in on any bullion thread to express your disdain for moderns especially bullion. We get it, you don't like it but no one wants to keep hearing why you think they are trash. Smile
