I have a nice shiny penny that has a raised area over lincolns forehead that makes him appear as if his skull is cracked. Is this a common known error? The crack follows his eyebrow to the edge of his face on the coin. This is with a cheap digi camera so its not much of a pic.

Probably shouldn't quit your day job.  But it sounds like you have an interesting coin.  Most 'cracked skulls' are the result of a die-crack.  You should post a picture anyways.

Looks like a cracked skull to me.  The examples I've collected are more of a jagged edge running down the forehead.  Looks like Frankenstein.  The gods of the coin community state the true cracked skull is a die crack.  I like mine anyways.

I have 2 suggestions.  Before you sell it, wait until you acquire another for you personal collection.  If you do sell it on eBay, list it with a starting bid of $1 and Free s/h (.39 for a stamp).  Good luck.

I collect colonial. More modern coin's are a past time. So I have no use for it.

I have skipped over a large number of these over the years - they just don't do anything for me.

Anyhow, the coin you have there is definitely a die crack, and is called a "cracked skull" cent by those who collect them.  They are very common from 1954 through 1960, the years in which die overuse was rampant.
