Hello everyone, I am new at this coin thing, and this seemed like a good place to join. I recently inherited a big collection of coins from a relative, and am trying to do some research before I decide what to do with it.

I have a lot of coins, Pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, halves, large amounts of bullion, silver dollars, proof sets, canadian money, peace, morgan, you name it, I have it...

I also have a large amount of already graded coins.

I Have done some research on grading, and how to identify the coins, by year, and such, and still feel like I might be missing something...

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

thank you

It sounds like you have an awesome relative. My inherited collection was a mercury dime and a few silver quarters. I posted a rough timeline in another topic in the main coin forums. The key points to coin collecting are dates, designs, variations, grades, values, melt value, and knowing which collections you want to expand. There are hundreds of different types of American coins so you have to narrow down you purchases. I collect mainly small cents and silver dimes.

Grab a red book by Yeoman. The prices may be a little high to market, but will help you ID them. Always get 3+ offers before selling, unless you are sure they are not worth much.  It helps to learn the nuances of the coins and market before selling. Or just keep and enjoy!

I would love to see some pictures of it. I also inherited coins, paper money and jewelry and it was a lot of fun to discover all this treasure.
