Ran into the following article on alternatives to a tripod.  Never have liked a tripod for Macro photog.  Too many things to get in the way and block light and too little flexibility.
Any input/opinions?

This is basically a copy stand. I would highly recommend using one, or making one. So much easier than a tripod, and also opens up some options not readily available using a tripod.

I agree a copy stand and a good set of lights are hard to beat.

You can get a cheap copy stand on ebay. They work great.

I actually use a tripod. The center post comes out and can be mounted horizontally. This is great because I can easily use my table or countertops.

The tripod pulls double duty for my son's baseball games to boot.
