I am very new to the error coin hunt, and am finding that this is a fascinating hobby!  I found a 1966 dime that the 66 on the date appears to be smashed down, and if I turn it over the F in the word of appears to be bulged out slightly. Also the words IN & WE  of " in god we trust" is smashed as well as the LIBERT   of the Word Liberty. I do see scratches along the outer edge of these #'s and letters.

I need the opinion of someone who is looking at this coin and has nothing to gain or lose by the outcome of your assessment.  Also someone who is familiar with the dents and dings of common everyday handling  Vs. mint error.

I have learned a very troubling thing about myself that I am not proud to share , but will hoping that I am not alone in my flaw.  I have the ability to see errors on coins that aren't really there. Sadly I find it hard to convince myself that the flaw that I know I just saw on the coin has just disappeared. Well not completely disappeared, it is still there at certain angles under certain light.  It only finally disappears for good after I have studied it for a good amount of time and then take my thumb and give it a good rub down.  Poof.... No error!  Lol

I found this same coin in my change today, it is interesting how exact your description matches up with my 1966 dime. The w in 'we' is nonexistent exepct for a slight indentation, and the e almost looks like an i, which i find humorous, as it says 'in god i trust'. i really didn't think it was just common wear on the coin, as no other parts of the coin shows nearly that much wear. Now that i see someone else describing the same thing, i am certain that it is some kind of misprint... I'd be glad to post pictures of the defect if it is possible and people want to see it. Honestly, i'd love to see anybody else's finds on this specific year and coin.
